More than one third of children experience a dental injury at some point in their childhood. While these emergencies could occur at any time, the two most common periods are during early toddlerhood and adolescence. Toddlerhood is when kids become curious and begin to explore the world around them. As they learn to walk, run and climb, injuries are fairly commonplace, especially in the mouth. Adolescents are more susceptible to dental injuries when they are involved in sports; injuries while playing sports can be alleviated or decreased by wearing a mouthguard. Regardless of the reason or time period, it is essential to get proper treatment right away to prevent the problem from becoming worse.
